Wood pulp prices rise, driving a new round of unexpected rise in paper prices

Affected by factors such as the recovery of downstream demand and the appreciation of the RMB, pulp prices have continued to rise since November 2020, and futures market prices have continued to rise.

In 2021, pulp supply will remain stable, but the demand recovery and freight rates will rise. Pulp prices are expected to continue to show an upward trend in the short term.

According to data, the spot prices of softwood pulp and hardwood pulp have seen a sharp rise recently, and the price increase is about 200 yuan/ton. On December 11, the average price of softwood pulp in the Shandong area was 5012.50 yuan/ton, which was raised compared with the average price at the beginning of the week (on December 6 was 4787.5 yuan/ton). 225 yuan/ton, an increase of 4.7%. On December 11, the average price of hardwood pulp in the Shandong area was 3887.5 yuan/ton, which was raised compared with the average price at the beginning of the week (the average price of hardwood pulp on December 6 was 3,625 yuan/ton). Was 262.5 yuan/ton, an increase of 7.24%.



 

From the observation of market changes, after the wood pulp spot price fluctuated for more than half a month, the price ushered in a wave of small climaxes, and it has been continuously high. As the pulp futures price continues to rise, the wood pulp spot price also follows closely. Afterward, in the current state of global economic recovery, the market's sentiment is warm now, and downstream paper companies continue to issue price increases, which also plays a certain role in promoting the rise of wood pulp prices.

With insufficient supply and rapid growth in demand, the rise in paper prices has become an inevitable trend.
